yea I agree. it's like with music. If I clean an old, scratched recording and publish a remastered version enahncing the audio etc. I can claim a new copyright on that, and you should use another old copy, not my newly restored one (why does Disney clean/modify/edit old movies otherwise, if not to move copyright forward?).

about Something Weird... do they mostly deal with public domain? I saw some of their sex flicks/sexploitation stuff and was wondering if it is all taken from the PD?

Not all. Some are owned by Sinister. Others are leased from other companies.
